Here at 3D Rapid Print, one of the fastest growing 3D Printing companies in the Thames Valley, we like to keep abreast of the latest innovations in 3D printing.

On August 31st 2022, Dallas Innovates spoke of Von Perry nearing completion of its first proof-of-concept of its 3D printing homebuilding technology and its intentions to increase its construction efforts across Texas. (Dallas Innovates is a business news website focusing specifically on North Texas, Von Perry of Dallas is a construction technology start-up.) Using geopolymer concrete as a material, Von Perry hopes to use its technology to streamline the construction process, while also making it cheaper and less labour intensive. Co-founder and CTO Sebin Joseph claimed that building a house using geopolymer concrete and 3D printing had never been done before.

Using hardware that only needs 3 people to operate, Von Perry 3D prints the structure of custom homes via contour crafting, which Joseph argued had the potential to cut the entire construction time of a house down to just 4 months. However, Von Perry didn’t hit this timeline on its initial project in Nevada, Collin County, for which Joseph blamed a backlog in the permitting process, as well as a change from regular concrete to geopolymer concrete to better cope with the Texas heat, which required a test-build. The company expected the 1,700 square-foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bath house to be completed by the end of October. (It is unknown where this has gone since. The project began in December 2021 and was originally expected to be finished by February 2022.) Nonetheless, Joseph contended that the excitement surrounding the project had prompted building requests from around the world, with 6 custom projects set to come online in the near future, including 3 in Dallas.

To help tackle the new projects, Von Perry intends to raise $2 million via crowdfunding platform StartEngine, in addition to the $40,000 it’s already attracted through UT Arlington pitch competitions. The new funding is aimed at helping the company hire 2 new construction teams and help it launch its proprietary Arcus software platform. This is slated to use artificial intelligence to modify custom home designs, while giving detailed instructions on where and when work on a project needs doing. Furthermore, some of the crowdfunding money is intended to go towards ongoing collaborations with UT Dallas, UT Arlington and UT San Antonio, who are helping supply talent to Von Perry’s 9-person team.
