The lamp was made by design agency <a href=\"https:\/\/en.krilldesign.net\/\">Krill Design<\/a> (Krill) of Milan, Italy, who claimed that its biopolymer had been in development for years, as it was a progression from work Krill had done in 2020 3D printing rudimentary sugar sachet holders for multinational catering company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autogrill.com\/en\">Autogrill<\/a> of Rozzano, also in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Krill also claimed that it took 7 different prototype versions to get to the lamp\u2019s final design, where the back would be as straight as possible while still allowing the head to be angled without the lamp falling over. On July 6th, Krill unveiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/ohmie-krilldesign\/ohmie-the-orange-lamp-worlds-first-lamp-from-orange-peels\/\">campaign<\/a> on crowdfunding website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/\">Kickstarter<\/a> for the project, which Krill proclaimed reached its \u20ac3,000 goal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/ohmie-krilldesign\/ohmie-the-orange-lamp-worlds-first-lamp-from-orange-peels\/posts\/3239534\">just 2 hours after launch<\/a>. As of August 2021, the campaign has raised more than \u20ac39,000 from more than 400 backers. Krill\u2019s next project is making a 3D printable coffee table from ground coffee beans; it also hopes to eventually create an entire line of products made from other citrus fruits.<\/p>\n<p>Precedent for 3D printing with discarded orange peel traces back at least as far as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2019\/09\/10\/carlo-ratti-feel-the-peel-circular-orange-juice-bar-design\/\">September<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/good-thinking\/feel-the-peel-orange-juice\/\">2019<\/a>, where design firm <a href=\"https:\/\/carloratti.com\/\">Carlo Ratti Associati<\/a> of Turin unveiled an experimental juice bar named <a href=\"https:\/\/carloratti.com\/project\/feel-the-peel\/\">Feel the Peel<\/a>, which can make 3D printable, recyclable plastic cups out of orange peel and PLA pellets. (Turin is also in Italy.) Measuring 3.1m tall, it was topped by a circular dome holding 1,500 oranges, which could be released for juicing as necessary whenever a customer ordered an orange juice.<\/p>\n<p>3D printing is an amazing tool.
