In addition, they proclaimed that the film could absorb sweat 6 times faster and hold 15 times as much moisture as conventional moisture-absorbent materials like silica gel. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S2211285520304304?via%3Dihub\">Their research<\/a> was published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/nano-energy\">Nano Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the film was found to rapidly release its absorbed fluids upon exposure to sunlight, which the team claimed enabled it to be reused more than 100 times. The film\u2019s sweat absorbing abilities were successfully demonstrated on prototypes of a 3D printed shoe insole, shoe lining and underarm pad. The team also designed what they described as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2021-01-evaporates-faster-moisture.html\">a wearable energy harvesting device<\/a>,\u201d where a makeshift battery that used multiple films was made that generated enough electricity to power a light-emitting diode.<\/p>\n<p>Another example of a 3D printed object that can turn a form of waste into electricity was unveiled by a group of researchers at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/\">Swansea University<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.specific.eu.com\/turning-waste-heat-into-electrical-power-3d-printed-device-could-help-cut-energy-bills-and-carbon\/\">circa June 2019<\/a>. Here, they unveiled a 3D printable thermoelectric device that worked at an efficiency that at the time had never been seen before. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/science\/thermoelectricity\">Thermo<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/technology\/thermoelectric-power-generator\">electricity<\/a> refers to the conversion of heat into electricity and vice-versa.) <a href=\"https:\/\/news.northwestern.edu\/stories\/2014\/04\/surprising-material-could-play-role-in-saving-energy\">Previous research<\/a> had shown that tin selenide converts heat into electricity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nature13184\">at a level unlike any other material<\/a>, although it is expensive and energy-consuming to manufacture via conventional means.
