(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/science\/cryogenics\">Cryogenics<\/a> can be defined as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wordnik.com\/words\/cryogenics\">The production of low temperatures or the study of low-temperature phenomena<\/a>.\u201d) Revealed on the 100th anniversary of Dhawan\u2019s birth, Skyroot proclaimed that the engine was named after him in honour of his role developing India\u2019s aerospace sector, as well as his work while chairman of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isro.gov.in\/\">Indian Space Research Organisation<\/a> (ISRO) between 1972 and 1984. (The ISRO is India\u2019s national space agency.)<\/p>\n<p>Skyroot intend to use the Dhawan-I engine to power the upper stage of their Vikram-II rocket. Named after ISRO founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isro.gov.in\/about-isro\/dr-vikram-ambalal-sarabhai-1963-1971\">Dr. Vikram<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Vikram-Sarabhai\">Sarabhai<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/skyroot.in\/launch-vehicle\/\">the Vikram series<\/a> comprises 3 launch vehicles and was mainly developed for launching small satellites. Skyroot are currently building a dedicated test facility for further testing of the Dhawan-I engine and expect to launch their first rocket in December 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/spinoff.nasa.gov\/Spinoff2018\/t_3.html\">The world\u2019s first cryogenic fuel-powered rocket engine<\/a> was built during the 1950s by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocket.com\/\">Aerojet Rocketdyne<\/a> of Los Angeles, California in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA<\/a>. (Aerojet Rocketdyne are a self-appointed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocket.com\/who-we-are\/about\">world-class developer and manufacturer of advanced propulsion and energetics systems<\/a>.\u201d) Named the <a href=\"https:\/\/rocket.com\/space\/liquid-engines\/rl10-engine\">RL10<\/a>, NASA boasts that it remains America\u2019s most used upper-stage rocket engine more than 50 years after its first flight in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>Other examples of 3D printing\u2019s use in rocketry include self-proclaimed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyrora.com\/who-we-are\">designs, manufactures and deploys rockets to clear the way for small satellite manufacturers looking to access Space<\/a>\u201d company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyrora.com\/\">Skyrora<\/a> of Edinburgh. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyrora.com\/post\/the-uks-first-complete-ground-rocket-test-in-50-years-takes-place-in-scotland\">In May 2020<\/a>, they completed the UK\u2019s first vertical static fire test of a space rocket for circa 50 years, using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyrora.com\/skylark-l\">rocket with a 3D printed engine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>3D printing is an amazing tool.
