{"id":1148,"date":"2019-06-20T11:55:15","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T10:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.3drapidprint.co.uk\/?p=1148"},"modified":"2021-02-17T19:03:20","modified_gmt":"2021-02-17T19:03:20","slug":"the-3d-printed-short-film-chase-me-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3drapidprint.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/06\/20\/the-3d-printed-short-film-chase-me-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Chase Me (2015), The 3D Printed Short Film"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Here at 3D Rapid Print, one\nof the fastest growing 3D Printing companies in the Thames Valley, we like to\nkeep abreast of the latest innovations in 3D printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chasemefilm.com\/home\/\">Chase Me (2015)<\/a> is a 175-second\nlong experimental stop-motion animated short film that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/121553662\">follows a ukelele-playing girl who is chased\nthrough a dark forest by the monster that emerges from her own shadow<\/a>.\u201d\n(The film\u2019s video description on video-sharing website <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/\">Vimeo<\/a> misspells the word ukulele.) It took digital\nartist and animator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chasemefilm.com\/home\/#filmmaker\">Gilles-Alexandre\nDeschaud<\/a> 2 years to make, including 4 months designing every frame via\ncomputer graphics animation. This amounted to circa 2,400 frames over 160\nseconds. (The film was shot at 15 frames per second.) Deschaud describes the\nfilm as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chasemefilm.com\/home\/#making\">a story about\nembracing your fears, and turning them into something beautiful<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film used 2,500 3D printed objects (300 of which were painted) across 12\ndifferent sets, consuming 80 litres of resin and circa 6,000 hours of printing\nover 10 months. The film\u2019s biggest object was a tree that measured 50x40x35cm;\nit took a week to print its 22 constituent parts. Falling water or objects like\na growing tree needed a different 3D printed object for every relevant frame to\nmimic their movement. A 3cm-tall model of the ukulele-playing girl was used for\nwide-angle shots, whereas the versions used for her close-ups went up to 7cm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The film premiered at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annecy.org\/home\">Annecy\nInternational Animation Festival<\/a> in June 2016, and was also selected for\nthe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cannescourtmetrage.com\/en\/\">Short Film Corner <\/a>at\nthe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/\">Cannes Film Festival<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/formlabs.com\/company\/press\/artist-creates-film-made-entirely-3d-printed-parts\/\">All\nthe film\u2019s 3D printed objects were printed via SLA on a<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/formlabs.com\/3d-printers\/form-1-plus\/\">Form 1+<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/formlabs.com\/\">Formlabs<\/a> of Somerville, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3D printing is an amazing\ntool.
