In it, 11-year-old Norman\nBabcock (who can communicate with ghosts) is charged with ending a 300-year-old\nwitch\u2019s curse on the fictional town of Blithe Hallow, Massachusetts, despite\nhis father grounding him. It became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popularmechanics.com\/culture\/movies\/a8026\/paranorman-powered-by-3d-printing-11744926\/\">first ever stop-motion animated film to use full-colour\n3D printing to create faces for characters<\/a>; circa 31,000 different objects were 3D printed for 27 different\ncharacters, with Norman having about 8,000 different facial expressions. (One\n27-second shot needed 250 different faces for a single character.) It was also\nonly the second stop-motion animated film to be shot in stereoscopic 3D, the\nfirst being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0783139\/?ref_=tt_ov_dr\">Henry Selick<\/a>\u2019s\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0327597\/\">Coraline (2009)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0009190\/?ref_=tt_ov_dr\">J.J.\nAbrams\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2488496\/\">Star Wars: Episode VII &#8211; The\nForce Awakens (2015)<\/a> is an epic\nspace-opera set 30 years after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0086190\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\">Star\nWars: Episode VI &#8211; Return of the Jedi (1983)<\/a>. Costume designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0438325\/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr42\">Michael\nKaplan<\/a> supervised the creation of\nthe film\u2019s 3D printed props, which included: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/databank\/stormtroopers\">Stormtroopers<\/a>\u2019 helmets, significant parts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/databank\/captain-phasma\/\">Captain\nPhasma<\/a>\u2019s armour, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/databank\/kylo-ren\/\">Kylo Ren<\/a>\u2019s lightsabre, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/databank\/rey\">Rey<\/a>\u2019s staff and some parts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000355\/?ref_=tt_cl_t11\">Anthony Daniels<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starwars.com\/databank\/c-3po\/\">C3PO<\/a> suit. Captain Phasma\u2019s helmet was designed via\ncomputer aided design (CAD), 3D printed in nylon and chrome plated. Rey\u2019s staff\nwas wrapped in various pieces of fabric to make it look more well used. A lot\nof the film\u2019s costumes and props were first shown at the\n2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starwarscelebration.com\/\">Star\nWars Celebration<\/a> and 2015 <a href=\"https:\/\/d23.com\/d23-expo\/\">Disney D23 Fan Expo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm3227090\/?ref_=tt_ov_dr\">Damien\nChazelle<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1213641\/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1\">First Man\n(2018)<\/a> is a biographical drama that\nportrays the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, as well as the space mission\nthat led to him becoming the first person to walk on the moon. During the\nfilming of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1485796\/\">The\nGreatest Showman (2017)<\/a> in autumn\n2016, production designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0189769\/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr16\">Nathan\nCrowley<\/a> came across a 3D printer\nmade by <a href=\"https:\/\/bigrep.com\/\">BigRep<\/a> of Berlin, Germany, which was printing a chair in its\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bigrep.com\/posts\/bigrep-opens-us-headquarters-new-york-continues-strong-us-growth\/\">then\nAmerican location<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/newlab.com\/\">New Lab<\/a>\nin the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynnavyyard.org\/\">Brooklyn Navy Yard<\/a>. This prompted him to rent 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/bigrep.com\/bigrep-one\/\">BigRep One<\/a>s (as part of an arsenal of 18 3D printers) to make <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2019\/film\/awards\/big-rep-3d-printer-takes-first-man-to-moon-1203140146\/\">accurate\nscale replicas of the Apollo 11 lunar module and Saturn V rocket<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm3363032\/?ref_=tt_ov_dr\">Ryan Coogler<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1825683\/\">Black Panther (2018)<\/a> is a superhero film based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/\">Marvel Comics<\/a> character <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marveldirectory.com\/individuals\/b\/blackpanther.htm\">of the\nsame name<\/a>. Black Panther, who is otherwise\nknown only as T\u2019Challa, is crowned king of the fictional kingdom of Wakanda after\nhis father\u2019s dies; his sovereignty is challenged by an adversary intent on\nabandoning the kingdom\u2019s isolationism and starting a global revolution. (Here,\nisolationism can be defined as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wordnik.com\/words\/isolationism\">a national policy of abstaining\nfrom political or economic relations with other countries<\/a>.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Costume designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0141921\/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cr26\">Ruth\nCarter<\/a> collaborated with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.juliakoerner.com\/about-biography\">designer<\/a>\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juliakoerner.com\/\">Julia\nKoerner<\/a> and 3D printing company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.materialise.com\/\">Materialise<\/a> of Leuven, Belgium to make some 3D printed\naccessories for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000291\/\">Angela\nBassett<\/a>\u2019s Ramonda. Her shoulder\nmantel was designed to imitate a lace pattern, while also needing to be\nsufficiently rigid to maintain its shape while Bassett was performing. The\ngeometric pattern on her headdresses could only be designed via CAD, and both\nthe shoulder mantel and the headdresses were made to look like it was\nimpossible for them to have been made by hand.
