Circa January 2018, \u201cartist\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelcandy.com\/\">Michael Candy<\/a> of Brisbane, Australia created <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelcandy.com\/SYNTHETIC-POLLENIZER\">The Synthetic Pollenizer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2018\/02\/19\/michael-candy-synthetic-pollensier-help-depleting-bee-population-technology\/\">which\nuses 3D printed flower petals<\/a> and artificial stamen, offering bees\na place to collect pollen and nectar without exposing them to pesticides. The\ndesign of the flowers took inspiration from that of rapeseed blossoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coral reefs provide habitat and shelter for hundreds of aquatic species\nand are suffering sharp declines in their population, mainly because of rising water\ntemperatures and acidities. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natureworldnews.com\/articles\/28688\/20160914\/answer-coral-bleaching-3d-printed-corals-save-caribbean-ocean.htm\">Circa September\n2016, the Harbour Village Beach Club of the Caribbean island of Bonaire\ncollaborated with ocean conservationist Fabien Cousteau to design and print\nartificial corals for the island<\/a>. (Fabien Cousteau is the eldest\ngrandson of marine conservation pioneer Jacques Cousteau, who invented the aqualung\nwith engineer \u00c9mile Gagnan.) Artificial reefs\nare usually made of either lime or sandstone and are used to attract coral\npolyps that will eventually grow into full colonies to create a new reef. The\nworld\u2019s largest 3D printed coral reef was designed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reefdesignlab.com\/\">Reef Design Lab<\/a> of Melbourne, Australia and was\ninstalled in the Maldives in August 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shell of an infant tortoise is notably less durable and less strong\nthan an adult\u2019s, and a significant number of species of tortoise are endangered\ndue to predation. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hardshelllabs.com\/\">Hardshell\nLabs<\/a> of\nHaines, Alaska is working to protect the Californian desert\u2019s tortoise population\nby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fin24.com\/Tech\/how-3d-printing-could-save-baby-tortoises-20170911-2\">3D\nprinting decoys of infants<\/a> that should deter birds from attacking other\ntortoises. The project started at the 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/autodesk-university\/\">Autodesk University<\/a>\nconference in Cape Town, South Africa; it is being done in collaboration with multinational\nsoftware corporation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/\">Autodesk<\/a> of San\nRafael, California, and 3D design and development company <a href=\"http:\/\/think2thing.com\/\">Think2Thing<\/a> of Toronto, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conservationists are facing increasing problems that will need inventive solutions.
